In 1979, Joe Riley died. He had written a letter to Viki to read upon his death. When Viki was to read the letter, on the East Coast, ABC preempted OLTL to show coverage of the Pope visiting the US. Walter contacted ABC to ask what was said. ABC kindling sent him the letter that Viki read.
